Learning music theory helps students become well-rounded musicians, and makes it possible for them to progress further in their music education.
The Foundation conducts 7 levels of Theory classes: Beginners 1 and 2, Intermediate 1 and 2 and Advanced 1 and 2. The classes are open to our students who are studying an instrument.
At the end of Advanced 2, students are ready for a Grade 5 ABRSM examination. “ABRSM’s Music Theory exams aim to give students a thorough understanding of the building blocks of music, starting with the basics of rhythm and notes, and going on to cover harmony and counterpoint, composition, and a broad knowledge of western music, including composers and their works, structure, style and period.“
Some students choose to continue with theory after they complete their ABRSM grade 5 exam as well, which we gladly facilitate.
